Since this is a multilingual platform I’m going to post this article in German and English.

The first month of this new year passed by extremely quickly, but thanks to holidays I had a lot of spare time to devote to my hobby. This is why I had the chance to read seven books and two mangas in the last 30 days. Since I don’t have time to write a review for every single book I’ve read, I’m going to summarize everything in a few sentences.

I actually wrote a review of this book :) Before I bought Warm Bodies I’ve read a few things about it – e.g. it’s some kind of Twilight meets The Walking Dead. The book wasn’t really captivating but I did like the idea of reading into the mind of a zombie instead of a human survivor. That’s the reason why I gave this book 3 stars.

Unfortunately this book is not available in English – as far as I know – nonetheless I would like to give everyone the chance to read about it. This ebook was given away for free on amazon.de shortly after Christmas. Since I wanted to read a book from Kai Meyer for a long long time, this was the perfect opportunity. I had no expectations on the first part of the stormkings trilogy, but I did like the book so much, that it only took me about two days to finish it. Especially the idea of choosing the Orient as the main scene made the book something really special. Because the story about Tarik, Junis and Sabatea and their journey through the djinnland was absolutely fascinating, I can’t wait to read the second part of this trilogy. This book really earned four stars.

Zusammengefasst: tolles Buch --> 5 Sterne!

This book is the fourth part in the series about literary detective Thursday Next. Since I hadn’t really liked the third book of this series, I wasn’t sure what to expect of “Something rotten”. But all my fear was baseless, because the story about Thursday fighting to get her erased husband back was absolutely thrilling and captivating from start to finish. Summary: great book --> five stars!

A Study in Scarlet von Arthur Conan Doyle

Since I watched the two seasons of the BBC TV series Sherlock in a really short time, I was addicted to anything concerning Sherlock Holmes. That’s the reason why I had to read one of Arthur Conan Doyle’s books. There is nothing more to say about “A Study In Scarlet” than: humorous, thrilling, absolutely worth reading. Therefore there is no reason why I can’t give this book four stars.

A friend gave me a big box of books some time ago and that’s where I found Norwegian Wood. Murakami is one of many authors I haven’t discovered so far, so it was a great opportunity to read one of his books and have a look behind the scenes of the Japanese society. Love and the loss of important people are only a few of the themes that are addressed in this book about Toru who remembers his youth.

I’m not really a fan of open ends so I was a little bit irritated by the way Murakami chose to end this book. But all in all it was a wonderful book which deserves four stars.

Welcome to fantasy meets detective novel - and I have to admit that this combination works perfectly. The wizard Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden tries to make a living as a private detective for paranormal crimes. Unfortunately that does not go smoothly which is the reason why he depends on being summoned as a consultant by the police.

I really liked the first part of this series, but I have to admit that the first half was a little bit slow and not until I finished about 50% of the book the story became interesting. Fool Moon is completely different because I liked it from start to finish. Especially the crime that has to be solved is way more interesting. That’s the reason why Storm Front gets only three and Fool Moon four stars. I’m really keen on knowing what the third book is about, since I found out that this one should be better than the first two.

Buddha: Kapilavastu & Buddha: The Four Encounters von Osamu Tezuka

Besides books I also read the first two parts of the manga Buddha from Osamu Tezuka. This classic, which has been published in the years 1972 – 1983, is about the prince Siddhartha and a couple of people who have been affected by famine, sickness, wartime and the caste system. At the very first moment I wasn’t really convinced by the style of the drawing, but now I have to admit that I really like it. It’s completely different from modern mangas and the story is really interesting too. Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how many stars I should give them - that's why I just skip this part :)
