I’m always a little bit sceptical when it comes to reading a book whose movie adaptation I’ve already seen. There were a lot of tries that didn’t turn out well – for example Timeline, also a book written by Michael Crichton. I really liked the movie and was extremely excited about reading the book on which the film was based but unfortunately I didn’t like it that much. I even was afraid it could be due to his writing style which would be a shame because there are still a lot of Crichton’s books on my reading pile. You can imagine my mixed feelings when I started reading Jurassic Park. I think I don’t have to say something about the plot, because a lot of you have already seen the movie and it is a quite accurate adaptation. After just a few pages I was totally captivated by the story and was always a little bit sad when I had to stop reading. Especially the scientific parts/explanations that bothered (and bored) me a lot when reading Timeline were extremely interesting. Even though I knew the storyline because I’ve seen the movie a few times, I really enjoyed reading Jurassic Park. My initial fear about Crichton’s writing style was completely baseless and I can’t wait to read more of his books.

Ich bin immer etwas skeptisch, wenn es darum geht, ein Buch zu lesen, von dem ich die Verfilmung schon gesehen habe. Schon etliche Male ging es nicht gut aus – so auch bei Timeline, ebenfalls ein Buch von Michael Crichton. Ich fand die Filmversion sehr gut und wollte deswegen unbedingt auch die Buchvorlage zu diesem Film lesen. Leider wurde ich nicht wirklich warm mit diesem Buch und hatte schon die Befürchtung, dass ich mit Crichtons Schreibstil Probleme habe – das wäre besonders schlimm, da noch einige seiner Bücher auf meiner Wunschliste stehen. Ihr könnt euch also vorstellen, dass ich gemischte Gefühle hatte, als ich Jurassic Park in die Hand nahm. Zur Handlung muss ich glaube ich nicht wirklich sehr viel sagen – viele von euch werden den Film höchstwahrscheinlich kennen und dieser hat sich ziemlich genau an Crichtons Geschichte gehalten. Nach nur ein paar Seiten war ich so begeistert von diesem Buch, dass ich es immer nur sehr ungern weglegen wollte. Vor allem die wissenschaftlichen Erklärungen, die mich bei Timeline beispielsweise ziemlich gestört und eher gelangweilt haben, fand ich dieses Mal sehr interessant. Obwohl ich aufgrund des Filmes schon wusste, was alles passieren wird und wie die Geschichte ausgeht, hatte ich sehr viel Spaß beim Lesen von Jurassic Park. Meine Befürchtungen zu Crichtons Schreibstil waren alles andere als begründet und ich kann es kaum mehr erwarten, wieder eines seiner Bücher zu lesen.
